In short

  • We track no one with pixels or ad-cookie networks.
  • We run Vercel Analytics: cookieless, anonymous, IP-anonymized page-view statistics.
  • Arrival Club signups store your name, email and arrival date so we can coordinate the cohort. You can request deletion anytime.
  • Newsletter emails go to our provider (ConvertKit or EmailOctopus, depending on configuration), unsubscribe in every email.
  • Affiliate links set the affiliate partner’s cookie (SafetyWing, Wise, Booking.com, etc.) only when you click. Not before.
  • You can request access, deletion or rectification anytime.

What data we collect

1. Server logs (Vercel infrastructure)

When you visit this site our host Vercel Inc. (San Francisco, USA, DPF-certified) automatically processes standard HTTP data: IP address, user agent, referrer, requested URL. Vercel anonymizes IPs within 24 hours. Legal basis: legitimate interest in operating the website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

2. Vercel Analytics (cookieless)

We use Vercel Analytics for anonymous, aggregated page-view statistics. No cookies, no user tracking, no cross-site fingerprinting. Vercel collects only the anonymized geo country code (e.g. "DE"), device type (desktop / mobile / tablet) and browser family. More at vercel.com/legal/privacy-policy. Legal basis: legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f)).

3. Newsletter signup

On signup we store your email address plus timestamp + IP address (as double-opt-in proof). We pass this data to our newsletter provider (ConvertKit or EmailOctopus, depending on current configuration). You can unsubscribe anytime via the link in every email, after which we delete your data within 30 days. Legal basis: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR).

4. Arrival Club signup

When you join the Arrival Club for a city we store your first name, email address and planned arrival date. We use this only to group you into a ~14-day arrival cohort and to coordinate the meetup. Your email is never shown publicly and never included in the counts we display. Data is stored in a Postgres database operated by Neon Inc. (see processors and third-country transfer below). You can request deletion anytime at contact@bangkokgotme.com. Legal basis: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR); processing for the requested meetup is also covered by Art. 6(1)(b).

5. Shortlist + compare list (localStorage)

Your personal shortlist and compare selection are stored only in your browser (localStorage). We never see this data on our servers.

6. Affiliate links

When you click an affiliate link (SafetyWing, Wise, Booking.com etc.) the respective partner sets a tracking cookie. It identifies ExpatWhy as the referral source if you buy something. We ourselves see only aggregated conversion numbers, no personal data. More in each partner’s privacy policy.

Third-country transfer

Our host (Vercel Inc.) and our database provider (Neon Inc., region us-west-2) are based in the USA, and the Arrival Club data is stored there. This means personal data is transferred to a third country. Transfers are safeguarded by the EU Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) concluded with each processor; Vercel is additionally certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. Legal basis for the transfer: Art. 46(2)(c) GDPR (SCCs).

Your rights (Art. 15–22 GDPR)

You always have the right to:

  • Access to the data we store about you (Art. 15)
  • Rectification of inaccurate data (Art. 16)
  • Erasure (“right to be forgotten”, Art. 17)
  • Restriction of processing (Art. 18)
  • Data portability (Art. 20)
  • Objection to processing (Art. 21)
  • Withdrawal of consent with future effect (Art. 7(3))
  • Complaint to your local data protection supervisory authority

Cookies

This site sets no advertising or tracking cookies. Vercel Analytics is explicitly cookieless. The only technical browser storage: localStorage for shortlist + compare list (purely client-side).

Affiliate partners set cookies only when you click their link, not before.

Processors

  • Vercel Inc., hosting + analytics. DPA + Standard Contractual Clauses signed.
  • Neon Inc., managed Postgres database for Arrival Club signups (region us-west-2, USA). DPA + Standard Contractual Clauses signed.
  • Newsletter provider (ConvertKit / EmailOctopus depending on configuration), email delivery.
  • GitHub Inc., repository + build CI. Receives no personal visitor data.

Retention

  • Server logs: 14 days (Vercel default)
  • Analytics data: 90 days in Vercel Analytics (aggregated, not personally reconstructable)
  • Newsletter signup: as long as you subscribe, deleted 30 days after unsubscribe
  • Arrival Club signup: kept until the arrival window has passed or you request deletion, then removed; at the latest 6 months after your arrival date
  • Affiliate conversion data: aggregated at the partner, not with us

Changes

We update this privacy policy occasionally. The current version is always here. We communicate material changes by newsletter (if you’re subscribed).
