1. What ExpatWhy is

ExpatWhy is an editorial directory of cities for digital nomads, expats, and relocators. We publish hand-written reviews + verified open-data layers (air, coworking, weather, seismic, storm risk) for 1,001 cities. The site is operated from Bangkok (relocating Dubai 2027), see Impressum for the legal entity.

2. Editorial opinion, not advice

Every city profile is editorial opinion, not financial, legal, visa, tax, medical, or relocation advice. We do our best to be accurate, rents, visa thresholds, cost-of-living numbers are dated to a specific last_reviewed timestamp visible on each page. But money decisions and legal moves should always be verified at the official source before you commit.

Specifically: we are not visa lawyers, not tax advisors, not immigration agents.

3. Use of content

You may:

• Read ExpatWhy freely. No paywall, no signup required.
• Link to any page from your own site, social, or newsletter.
• Quote up to ~50 words of editorial text in your own work with attribution.
• Use the open-source data layers per their original licenses (see footer).

You may not:

• Republish entire editorial entries on your own site or app.
• Scrape ExpatWhy to train AI models or fill a competitor product.
• Remove the editorial attribution or our brand.
• Use ExpatWhy content in any way that violates applicable law.

4. AI-generated photos

City hero + editorial photos are text-only generated by ExpatWhy via the nano_banana_2 model (no Wikipedia-derivative references). All rights reserved © ExpatWhy. You may not copy or reuse them without permission.

5. Affiliate links

Some outbound links pay ExpatWhy a commission if you sign up or purchase. We disclose the commercial relationship inline on each affiliate card and globally on /affiliate-disclosure. Affiliate revenue never influences our editorial verdicts.

6. Newsletter

By signing up you agree to receive periodic editorial emails. You can unsubscribe at any time via the link in every email. See Datenschutz for full data-handling details.

7. No warranty

ExpatWhy is provided "as is". We don't warrant data accuracy, availability, fitness for any particular purpose, or that the site will be uninterrupted. Decisions you make based on our content are your own.

8. Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law (German law applies), ExpatWhy and its operator are not liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the site. This does not affect mandatory liability for intent or gross negligence.

9. Changes

We may update these terms. The current version is always at this URL with the date at the top. Material changes will be announced via newsletter.

10. Governing law + jurisdiction

German law applies. Jurisdiction for any dispute is the operator's place of business as listed in the Impressum, to the extent legally permissible.
