Terms of service.

1. What ExpatWhy is

ExpatWhy is an editorial directory of cities for digital nomads, expats, and relocators. We publish editorial city reviews + open-data layers (air, coworking, weather, seismic, storm risk) for 999 cities. The operator is DUOPORE VENTURES PTE. LTD., Singapore; see Impressum for its registered address and contact details.

2. Editorial opinion, not advice

Every city profile is editorial opinion, not financial, legal, visa, tax, medical, or relocation advice. We do our best to be accurate, rents, visa thresholds, cost-of-living numbers are dated to a specific last_reviewed timestamp visible on each page. But money decisions and legal moves should always be verified at the official source before you commit.

Specifically: we are not visa lawyers, not tax advisors, not immigration agents.

3. Use of content

You may:

• Read ExpatWhy’s public guides freely. Optional community features require an account.
• Link to any page from your own site, social, or newsletter.
• Quote up to 50 words of editorial text in your own work with attribution.
• Use source data under its original licence terms; our editorial conditions do not replace those licences.

You may not:

• Republish entire editorial entries on your own site or app.
• Scrape ExpatWhy to train AI models or fill a competitor product.
• Remove the editorial attribution or our brand.
• Use ExpatWhy content in any way that violates applicable law.

These permissions and restrictions apply to rights we hold. Statutory exceptions, lawful quotation, fair use or fair dealing, and rights under open-data licences remain unaffected.

4. AI-generated photos

City hero + editorial photos are text-only generated by ExpatWhy via the nano_banana_2 model. They are illustrative, not documentary photographs of current conditions. We claim rights only where legally recognised; purely AI-generated output may not attract copyright. Any use must respect third-party rights, applicable licences and legal exceptions.

5. Affiliate links

Some outbound links pay ExpatWhy a commission if you sign up or purchase. We disclose the commercial relationship inline on each affiliate card and globally on /affiliate-disclosure. Affiliate revenue never influences our editorial verdicts.

6. Newsletter

Where signup is available, subscribing is optional and separate from Arrival Club participation. We ask you to confirm your email before sending the monthly newsletter. You can unsubscribe at any time via the link in every email. See Privacy for full data-handling details.

7. No warranty

Our free information and tools provide estimates and general guidance. Data can be incomplete or become outdated, and availability may be interrupted. A score, recommendation or calculator result is not a guarantee of visa eligibility, safety, tax treatment or personal suitability. This does not exclude duties or remedies that apply by law.

8. Liability

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability for fraud, wilful misconduct, gross negligence, death or personal injury caused by negligence, or any liability that applicable law does not permit us to exclude or limit. We remain responsible for our own duties under applicable law. Third-party providers are responsible for their own contracts; referring you to them does not remove our responsibility for our own statements or conduct.

9. Changes

We may update these terms prospectively and show the revision date here. Changes do not retroactively alter an existing agreement or remove accrued rights. Where an existing agreement requires notice or your consent to a change, we will obtain it. Newsletter membership is not required to exercise your rights.

10. Governing law + jurisdiction

For use under this version of these terms, Singapore law applies, subject to mandatory protections that apply to you. This choice does not deprive a consumer of mandatory protections of their habitual residence where applicable, including under Article 6 of the EU Rome I Regulation. We do not require consumers to bring claims exclusively in Singapore; statutory jurisdiction and complaint rights remain available. Existing agreements are not retrospectively switched from an earlier governing-law clause.

11. Arrival Club and third-party purchases

A free Arrival Club signup is a request to be contacted about a possible cohort, not a guaranteed event, seat or number of attendees. Participation is for adults aged 18 or over. Signup does not subscribe you to marketing. Before any separate paid activity, its organiser, dates, inclusions, full price, cancellation terms and applicable consumer rights must be provided. A signup alone creates no payment obligation.

Affiliate purchases are contracts with the named provider under its terms. We are not the insurer, financial institution, immigration authority, mover or accommodation provider. Check eligibility, fees, exclusions and cancellation rights directly before purchasing.

12. Community accounts and introductions

The optional Bangkok community pilot is free and for adults aged 18 or older. You must provide accurate account information, protect your password and recovery code, and follow the community rules. Joining does not subscribe you to marketing or create a payment obligation.

Members control profile visibility and choose introductions. Profiles, accommodation claims and contact addresses are self-reported, not verified. A suggestion or introduction is not a guarantee of safety, suitability, an available room or a successful match. We do not act as a letting agent, landlord or party to your tenancy, collect deposits, or decide housing eligibility. Each person should verify people, properties and agreements independently. Our own statutory responsibilities remain unchanged.

You retain your rights in your profile content and give us the limited permission needed to store and display it to your chosen audience and operate introductions and moderation. This is not permission to reuse it in advertising. Do not submit unlawful content or content that infringes another person’s rights. You can edit, pause or delete your account; necessary retention and recipients’ independent copies are explained in the privacy notice.

We may suspend access where reasonably necessary to address rule violations, fraud, security risks or legal duties. Members can report concerns using the in-product controls and request review of a moderation decision through contact@bangkokgotme.com. We do not promise continuous monitoring or immediate responses. Legally required notices and mandatory rights remain available regardless of newsletter subscription.
