A furnished one-bedroom in the center near Ala-Too Square runs $300-450/month. Osh Bazaar is the food center, lagman noodles for $2, plov for $3, samsa for $0.50. Eating out at a sit-down place is $5-8. Groceries are $150-200/month. Yandex taxis cross the city for $2.
Continental climate. June-September is the working window, warm days (25-30°C), cool evenings, and clear mountain views. November-March is grey and polluted (coal heating fills the valley). April-May brings wildflowers on the Suusamyr plateau.
60-day visa-free for most passports including US, EU, UK, Canada, Japan, Russia. Russian is the working language; Kyrgyz is the national one. English exists in a handful of cafes (Sierra Coffee, Cafe Faiza) and at the small expat-skewed coworking spaces near AUCA.
Safety is generally good, daylight is fine everywhere, taxi at night. The 2020 unrest has not repeated. Internet is 100 Mbps for $10/month and reliable. Banking via MBank works with foreign cards. Pamir Highway tours, Song Kul yurt stays, and Karakol skiing are all reachable.
