Furnished rentals near the Convento or the Kinich Kakmó pyramid run MXN 9,000–14,000 ($450–700). Almost nobody comes here for a long stay. A comida corrida lunch is MXN 90 ($4.50). Wifi is patchy and there are no real coworking spaces, Mérida is 70km west if you need infrastructure.
Hot tropical climate, hot all year. November to April is the dry, manageable window (26–32°C). May to October is the wet season with serious humidity, afternoon storms, and mosquitoes. Hurricane risk runs August–October.
The Convent of San Antonio de Padua, built in 1549, sits on top of a leveled Mayan pyramid base, the second-largest atrium in the world after the Vatican. Pope John Paul II visited in 1993 and the town painted itself yellow for the occasion; it has stayed that way. The Kinich Kakmó pyramid is still standing in the middle of town and you can climb it, no entry fee, no crowds, no railings. Carriage rides clop around the centro for MXN 200. Most visitors come on day trips from Mérida and leave by 4pm, which is exactly when the town becomes worth being in. Mexico FMM 180 days. Spanish only.

National-average international-school primary tuition, aggregated from published 2025/26 fee schedules across the country's international schools. Country baseline, not anchored to schools in this specific city; the real figure for a given school varies with tier, location and grade. Preschool = full-day international preschool, annual. Secondary is an estimate, modelled as a published uplift over primary (low +20%, typical +30%, high +40%), since secondary tuition rises with grade; it is not a separately sourced figure.
Tuition only. Excludes one-off enrolment/capital levies, school bus, lunch, uniforms and exam fees, which add materially at most schools.
