The case & the friction.
ExpatWhy editorial
A furnished one-bedroom in Lara or Konyaaltı runs 25,000-35,000 TRY ($760-1,060), up sharply from pre-2022. Kaleiçi, the walled Old Town, is where you actually want to walk at night, Ottoman wooden houses, Roman harbor below, Hadrian's Gate (130 AD) marking the entrance. The Antalya Museum is one of the best archaeological collections in the country. Düden Waterfalls drop straight into the Mediterranean on the city's east edge.
The Russian-Ukrainian community has changed the city's character. Whole districts of Konyaaltı operate in Cyrillic. Some nomads find it useful (English-Russian double coverage), others find it claustrophobic. Turkish locals have mixed feelings.
Climate is the real draw: 300+ sunny days a year, mild winters (15°C in January), but July-August hit 40°C+ with humidity. May-June and September-October are the working months. The sea stays swimmable through November.
Turkey 90/180 visa-free or the $3k/month DNV, Antalya has the country's most active foreign-residence-permit population, so the bureaucracy is well-rehearsed. English coverage is strong in tourist zones, weaker inland.
Lycian coast (Olympos, Çıralı, Kaş) starts an hour west. Best base in Turkey for road-trip access.

National-average international-school primary tuition, aggregated from published 2025/26 fee schedules across the country's international schools. Country baseline, not anchored to schools in this specific city; the real figure for a given school varies with tier, location and grade. Preschool = full-day international preschool, annual. Secondary is an estimate, modelled as a published uplift over primary (low +20%, typical +30%, high +40%), since secondary tuition rises with grade; it is not a separately sourced figure.
Tuition only. Excludes one-off enrolment/capital levies, school bus, lunch, uniforms and exam fees, which add materially at most schools.
